in 1995, American Singles was
one of the first online dating services available and has successfully
grown to include millions of active members.
Create a free account today and search for
singles by location or by interest. You can post a profile and browse
through their database right away. But you can't send or reply to
messages unless you're a paid subscriber. Unlike other services
such as Yahoo Personals and Match.com
which allow you to receive (not send) messages with a free account,
you WILL NOT be able to read messages from members either. So be
ready to pay for a membership if you see someone you like. With
Yahoo and Match, it is possible to stay "free" if someone
sends their personal email address in a message (which is common).
Creating a profile can be a long process
compared to other services as well. But this insures user information
is detailed and complete. Since everyone is required to answer a
variety of questions and fill in every section provided, all profiles
are comprehensive and representative of their members. Unlike some
services, you won't find empty profiles with just a sentence and
a picture.
Search features are very similar to other popular services. Search
by location, or use customized options such as gender, height, hair
color, education, religion, ethnicity, smoking and drinking habits,
etc., to find the ideal person you're looking for. Too
shy to write an email and start a conversation? Introduce yourself
with a "Tease" and get the ball rolling. American Singles
has over 40 pre-written one-line teasers you can use to open up
a conversation.

to date online. Although their free membership lacks in options,
paid members have access to high quality, detailed profiles and
