Over the last several years the
dating scene has
quickly transitioned to the Internet - revolutionizing the way we meet and interact with other people. Online dating opens
doors to singles across the globe with a wide variety of interests and objectives. Obviously, online dating provides many great benefits, but there are some disadvantages as well.
Here, we show you both sides:
Pros of Online Dating
- A Slow and Easy Approach - Apprehensive or shy people will appreciate the anonymity
that online dating provides. Being able to keep things cool or at a
distance may ease the tension that presents itself on a real first date. Awkward
social situations are avoided and conversation can be eased into at a comfortable
pace at your own discretion.
- Security and Safety at Home - For some people, the dating scene can be a little scary in the real world. With internet dating you will safe and secure knowing you won't actually have to meet someone until you decide the time is right. No shady bars or night clubs necessary.
- Sell Yourself - NOT Your Looks - We weren't all born with
knock-out looks. Online dating levels the playing field so that your conversation
is focused on what kind of person you are instead of how you look.
- Number
of Potential Dates is Endless - One of the obvious benefits of online dating
is the number of people you can meet and interact with that you would never have
an opportunity to meet any other way.
Cons of Online
Dating
- Less than Honest Profiles - Dishonest people aren't always easy to spot, and it's especially true in the online world.
One of the most obvious disadvantages of online dating is the chance of meeting
an unscrupulous person who misrepresents themselves. Although some services provide background checks, it's almost impossible to know if someone's history, marital status, photos or objectives are true
and honorable.
- Body Language and Facial Expressions - One of the
ways we connect and feel the chemistry with people is by observing body language,
facial expressions and tone of voice. With online dating, the signals are lost
and cannot be experienced without meeting in person.
Online dating,
just like real world dating, is a challenge and sometimes a scary proposition.
Use your head and always remember to play it safe. Learn more about online
dating safety.
